On September 15, the final stage of the open selection of candidates for the post of General Director of the State Institution “Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine” was completed.
Six applicants who submitted documents for participation in the competition and passed the selection for compliance with the qualification requirements presented their vision of the development of the field of public health and the institution they plan to lead.
The following participated in the last stage of open selection:
Olena Yeshchenko is an associate professor of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine at P.L. National Academy of Medical Sciences. Shupyka
Vitaly Kononenko is the deputy chief physician for the organization and management of the Ukrainian Center for Disease Control and Monitoring of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
Lyudmila Mukharska – head of the board of the All-Ukrainian Union of Public Organizations, head of the public council at the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of Ukraine.
Nataliya Nizova is the director of the “Ukrainian Center for Control of Socially Dangerous Diseases of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine”.
Anatoliy Ponomarenko – Deputy Director for the Implementation of Quality Management Systems of the Kyiv City Laboratory Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
Oleg Shvets – Director of the State Scientific Research Center for Food Hygiene Problems of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
The winner of the open selection was Nataliya Nizova, who demonstrated an understanding of the needs of the public health sector and a comprehensive approach to the development of the Center. The contract will be signed soon for a period of one year.
The decision was made as a result of the consensus of the tender commission headed by the Deputy Minister of Health Oksana Sivak. It also included experts, representatives of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and international organizations, including Jose Roman Leon Lora from the Support Group for Ukraine of the European Commission and Charles Vitek from the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The main task of the Public Health Center is the development of the public health sector and the formation of a sustainable system of epidemiological surveillance in Ukraine.
The center will be responsible for the prevention and control of infectious diseases (HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, influenza, poliomyelitis, hepatitis, etc.), increasing preparedness for the risk of outbreaks of highly pathogenic diseases, prevention and control of non-infectious diseases, promotion of a healthy lifestyle, identification of the main determinants of health and problems in the field of health care, carrying out risk assessment, laboratory tests and forecasting. In addition, the center will have the resources to respond to health emergencies (for example, in the event of an epidemic).
