On December 1, 2015, a meeting of the Board and management of the Associations was held at the headquarters of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) in Geneva.
The focus of the discussion was the issue of formulating formularies, combating counterfeit pharmaceutical products, creating standards of comparison and equivalence of biologics, and improving the availability of orphan drugs.
They also discussed issues of interaction between the industry and the WHO in terms of retraining of manufacturers, the role of the industry in creating the Essential Product List of the WHO, which, in the opinion of the industry, should include not only simple and often outdated generic products, but also modern drugs that should be used in case of resistance to standard therapy, in particular, in tuberculosis. Work in this part, as well as optimization of the approach to the retraining of producers, by WHO is ongoing.
